Teen pregnancy and childbearing have large social and economic costs that can have short and long-term negative implications for teen parents, their children, and their community. In this article, we will identify and discuss the effects of adolescent pregnancy.

1. They face additional health risks and problems.
Adolescent pregnancy continues to be a major cause of maternal and child mortality. Pregnancy and delivery complications are the main cause of death for girls aged 15 to 19. Because of their undeveloped bodies, pregnant girls and adolescents face additional health risks and problems. Babies born to younger mothers are likewise more vulnerable.
2. Unsafe abortions
Pregnancy and delivery are not planned nor desired by many teens. Adolescents in countries where abortion is illegal or severely limited usually resort to unsafe abortion, putting their health and lives at risk. Every year, approximately 3.9 million unsafe abortions are performed on females aged 15 to 19 in underdeveloped countries.
3. May experience violence
Adolescent pregnancy can have both social and economic consequences for girls, their families, and communities. Violence may befall unmarried pregnant adolescents. Girls who become pregnant before age of 18 are also more likely to experience violence within a marriage or partnership.
